Manuel Cohen photographed the streets of Tortosa, Catalonia, for three years. In this forgotten city where buildings collapse daily without local authorities doing anything Cohen wanted to symbolize the notion of absence. On each photograph, the artist reveals a piece of Tortosa, a city made up of houses, buildings in ruins and memories. Manuel Cohen makes us feel the absence of people through a subtle game, a technique of superimposing images that reminds us that these abandoned houses were once full of life. The absence (ausencia in Spanish) of life finds a stronger echo in the works of the photographer, who manages to recreate stories in these empty places.
