"Haute Couture Glimpse from Paris"
from Thursday, August 27, 2020 to Sunday, November 29, 2020
Galerie XII Shanghai
Galerie XII Shanghai is pleased to present an exhibition of fashion photographs from Paris for the opening of its new gallery in the Jingan District.
It was in Paris that the biggest names in Haute Couture launched their careers: Chanel, Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld… Their creations have amazed the world and have been immortalized by the greatest photographers.
The exhibition brings together prints by Cathleen Naundorf and Jean-Marie Périer, two photographers who had privileged access in the closed world of the great designers. In the mid-1990s, the magazine ELLE France gave carte blanche to Périer to produce stories about the great designers of fashion who were becoming global stars. He was thus able to stage them for images that had become icons since then: Yves Saint-Laurent in his Parisian apartment in the middle of his collection of works of art highlighted by an amazing red dress worn by the top model Sybil Buck; Karl Lagerfeld under the snow in front of his castle…
A few years later, Naundorf produced «Un rêve de mode», a set of photographs for Vogue France in incredible settings. She photographs with a large-format camera or Polaroid films, which gives her photographs a special and remarkable tone. Among the models exhibited, evening dresses by Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Dior, Elie Saab.
In parallel to these photographs, are also exhibited works of the Italian fashion photographer Giovanni Gastel who imagined decors referring to paintings by Hopper or Magritte.
