    Chercher le Soleil, 2025

Seeking the Sun is a poetic and artistic quest — a return to the origins, to the first light. It is a sensory exploration through photography, textile, drawing, and video, aimed at rediscovering that initial sense of wonder, like that of a child seeing the world for the first time. My first trip to Corsica, when I was just a month old, likely marked the moment when the first colors of the world appeared before my still-new eyes.

Corsica, both real and imagined, is for me an inner refuge, a space of freedom and surrender. I spent over ten years there, through constant journeys back and forth, building a sensitive and fragmented memory. This place offered me my first experiences of beauty, my first moments of contemplation — a living material I sought to translate into images.

With this project, I aim to reconnect with a contemplative gaze — non-productive, open to reverie. My images are visual caresses, splashes of light, intimate landscapes shaped by the sea, the sun, winding roads, and ever-changing skies. They speak of an inner territory, both tangible and elusive.

Some works are embroidered, perforated, or printed on textiles; others are ephemeral, like organza prints or altered Polaroids. They evoke memory, erosion, and fragility, while maintaining a full presence in the world. It is an attempt to keep alive that state of wonder.

Part of this project was produced during my Excellence in Artisanal Crafts residency, in partnership with the Nicéphore Niépce Museum in Chalon-sur-Saône and the Émiland Gauthey high school.

« The images and imaginary territories I present are, in a way, crossbreedings. I can spend hours putting several images together, and then be surprised by the beauty of the landscapes that emerge from these unexpected encounters. I love the energy that comes from combining different media, such as photography and embroidery, or the light that can pass through some of my pierced images, creating a different reading of the image. I've also always enjoyed working with others and creating 4-handed pieces, as encounters with others have always taken me into new and promising territory. For me, weaving and blending are intrinsic notions of life, love and artistic work, and it's from this encounter with the other, the material or the territory that vital, creative energy is born. »

Sabatina Leccia is a contemporary artist who has been using different mediums since 2015 to unfold her poetic, dreamlike universe. Her work evokes interior landscapes that she constructs in the slowness of gesture. Coming from the world of embroidery, she takes hold of her embroidery needle to pierce the paper of her drawings or photos to sublimate details and create fragile, sensitive images. In her photographs, which are an extension of her drawings, Sabatina reworks color and material like a drawing, seizing on reality, transforming it and sending us off into another world.

Her work has led her to develop various projects on the borderline between art and craft with a number of structures and associations. (La Fabrique Nomade, l'Académie Française, association Art Exprim, la Source founded by Gérard Garouste...).

Sabatina Leccia continues her plastic research through institutional residencies. In 2022, she collaborated with photographer Clara Chichin and won the Bourse Transverse 2022 (with the support of ADAGP and the freelens association). They were also selected to exhibit at the Biennale de l'Image Tangible 2023, and developed their project Le Bruissement entre les murs during a residency at Capsule 93. In 2024, Sabatina Leccia was invited by the Cultural Service of Rennes II to present her “Traverser la nuit” series. The same year, she was selected for the Excellence des métiers d'arts residency, in partnership with the Nicéphore Niepce museum in Châlons sur Saône.

Sabatina Leccia's work has also been featured in institutional exhibitions, notably during the 2025 cultural season at the Centre d'art et images de Campredon, and the 2025-2026 season at FRAC Corsica.
