Gabriel Bauret, on the work of Patrizia Mussa:
Patrizia Mussa's approach follows a narrow, subtle line between reality and the interpretation of places, between the photographic act and the pictorial gesture; more precisely, the use of pastel, which gives the image a very particular atmosphere and tone, but also participates in the desire to detach oneself significantly from the real world, from a form of derealization. [...]

We're witnessing a fusion of two operations that should be distinguished here from the colorization of black-and-white views, a process that has marked the history of photography to this day. It's not so much that color is superimposed on black and white to lend extra presence or realism. On the contrary, Patrizia Mussa distances herself considerably from the scene, drawing us into her own perception of the world of theater and opera. [...]

The pastel even creates a kind of veil between the reality of the place and the very personal memories that Patrizia Mussa revives here; an element of mystery pervades this vision of the world of opera and theater. Our eye floats in an in-between world, so much so that we hesitate as to the true existence of these architectures, as if they had sprung from the artist's imagination.
