    Place de la Concorde

As part of the Photoclimat festival, the association “Petits frères des Pauvres” asked Studio Goldberger to design and produce eight images to raise awareness of the problem of loneliness among elderly people and those in precarious situations.

In a world where the virtual is becoming increasingly prevalent, where algorithms shape our realities and where artificial intelligence is redefining our imaginations, essential questions arise: How far can the substitution of reality go? Can human relationships be replaced? This project, designed especially for “Petits frères des Pauvres” as part of the Photoclimat festival, explores these questions through a series of eight large-format photographs of lonely men and women in their everyday surroundings (living room, kitchen, public bench, etc.), which will be exhibited in Paris.

These images, visible to the naked eye, reveal the loneliness of human beings in the real world. By then looking at these images through their smartphones, viewers will be able to discover, through augmented reality, worlds entirely designed by Artificial Intelligence. It all starts with words, those of the people interviewed who tell us about those who populate their loneliness. AI will allow us to create alternative universes, fictional presences, and illusory worlds that enrich these scenes. These digital additions will only be visible through a smartphone camera. By moving the smartphone, viewers will be able to observe different parts of the image.

At the exhibition venue, a text will accompany the images. Written by the Studio Goldberger team, this text will highlight the importance of real exchanges over virtual ones. It will also explain why Les Petits Frères des Pauvres needs help and volunteers to support our seniors who suffer from loneliness. When viewers pass their smartphone over the text, a completely bizarre text generated by AI will appear about the benefits of virtual friendship...
